Tamaki Int. - Basketball Details

One of the major events that Tamaki Intermediate School is involved in this year is the 2008 AIMS Games.

This is the Nationals for sport and we're fielding a Girls Basketball team in the tournament, as those of you who have been watching our regular Basketball posts will realise.

The team consists of our two Under 13 Auckland Representatives Lasini (whose our Captain) and Cecilia (our Vice Captain). It includes the only player who went last year, Meliame as well as Latrell, Angel, Kathy, Maggie, Meliane, Mii, Santana and Patricia.

The team has been together playing regularly since July 2007 preparing for these finals. Last year we had a 1-9 Thursday Night record and this year that's improved to 5-2. We're currently playing against a mixture of teams (including Boys) in preparation for the finals we're there's 13 teams entered from as far South as Christchurch in the South Island and places like Rotorua, Waihi and Hastings!

When the team is at the nationals we'll be posting remotely from Tauranga so you can watch the teams progress day by day, we'll also have a go at posting videos online and photos too! If you want to check what all the fuss is about you can visit the official site at www.nzaimsport.co.nz

Last year in our first entry into the event the Tamaki Intermediate Girls defeated Otumoetai Intermediate, Kaitoa Middle School and Morrinsville Intermediate onto their way to fourth place. Rivalana was named in the tournament team for her outstanding play.

This year as well as practising once a week and playing every Thursday the team has been involved in some serious fund-raising which lots of people have been involved in. Some of our players are getting very excited about this tournament and its taking place in week eight of this coming term!

This video below is footage of our last pool game of term two against 'Sylvia Park School'. While the score was close at half time being 18-10 to Tamaki in the second half Tamaki managed to score another 28 points while our defence restricted Sylvia Park to just three points... check these highlights out and watch for these faces at the nationals!

Thanks very much Miss Signal! We are very nervous about the tournament as some of the teams last year were awesome. There were teams who were made up of U13/U15 representative players and player who'd been playing since they were five. All of our Girls started last year for the first time but thanks for the positive comments.
